Find out why Kinan Azmeh’s clarinet playing has been called “spellbinding” (The New Yorker) and “intensely soulful” (The New York Times). Azmeh, a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, gave a powerful performance at the Museum in 2016. He returns now with his quartet, CityBand. Combining jazz and classical with the melodies of his homeland, Syria, the ensemble delivers a lively and masterful concert.
Formed in 2006 in New York City, Kinan Azmeh’s CityBand features Azmeh’s haunting clarinet, Kyle Sanna’s rustic guitar, the volatile backdrop of John Hadfield’s percussion, and Josh Myers’ double bass. Drawing upon their individual cultural backgrounds, each member adds to the ensemble’s captivating flair.
