Rumi and the Path of Radical Love

Description

All too often, Rumi is presented as a unique figure in the history of Sufism, floating above time and space to dispense wisdom to us. In this exhibition keynote lecture, Omid Safi situates Rumi at the peak of the Islamic mystical tradition of Radical Love while emphasizing that he was neither the first nor the only figure in this tradition. Join Safi as he explores the impulses that led up to Rumi through an examination of Rumi’s masterpiece, the Masnavi. Rather than looking at it as a compilation of random stories, Safi will approach the Masnavi as a path that Rumi sets before us in order to journey from brokenness to healing and illumination.

 

This lecture will feature a musical performance and followed by a reception with light refreshments.
