Don't Ask Me Where I'm From
With Marianne Fenton
Description
First-, second-, and third-generation immigrants are a growing global population of people raised in a culture other than that of their parents. All 15 artists in the exhibition Don’t Ask Me Where I’m From identify themselves in that population – together, they represent 25 countries. Join exhibition co-curator Marianne Fenton as she discusses the making of this exhibition, which is a collaboration between the Aga Khan Museum and Fondazione Imago Mundi, and talks about the artists’ “hybrid” experience. She’ll reflect on how it allows them to see the world from multiple perspectives simultaneously, and create artwork that reflects their multiple cultural roots. With its focus on the advantages and challenges of being the child of immigrants, this is a talk sure to resonate with many Torontonians.
