Name

Photography, Cinema, and Royal Painting in Qajar Iran
with Dr. Kaveh Askari

Description

Witness an alternative history to early cinema. In the Qajar court, the moving image was not introduced in the popular fairground as it was in North America and in Europe. It was adapted to accommodate the needs of the political and artistic elite. Join film professor Kaveh Askari, as he takes you through the unique Qajar court system and how artists developed new programs of art education, crafting a new approach to space and portraiture.

Bio:
Kaveh Askari is Associate Professor in the Film Studies Program at Michigan State University. He is also the author of Making Movies into Art: Picture Craft from the Magic Lantern to Early Hollywood.
