Name
The Art of Chivalry in Mughal India
Description
In the Mughal courts, it was essential that a ruler display nobility, mightiness, and courage, or in other words — chivalry. This is reflected in the art of the era where, for instance, hunting scenes represented a means to validate the Emperor’s sovereignty and strength. Using vivid and lively paintings and jewels from Emperors & Jewels: Treasures of the Indian Courts from the al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait, exhibition co-curator Dr. Filiz Çakir Phillip takes you on a visual journey through portraiture, weaponry, and princely adornments, building a complete picture of the chivalrous ruler.
