with Dr. Lauryn Oates
Description
Join us for the first talk in our new Changemaker Series! This inaugural season features exceptional women who are carving new paths in art and activism around the world. We open the series with women’s rights advocate Dr. Lauryn Oates, recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Drawing on two decades of working in Afghanistan to expand education rights for women and girls in conflict zones, Dr. Oates will share new insights, discuss the exceptional outcomes of empowering girls and women, and reflect on the role of art, literature, and music in giving girls and women a voice in the world.
Dr. Oates is currently Executive Director of Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, a not-for-profit that delivers educational programming to Afghan women and girls, and she is the founder of the Darakht-e Danesh Digital Library, a repository of open educational resources in languages spoken in Afghanistan. She teaches at the School of Humanitarian Studies at Royal Roads University.
